Simpsons doss house. My dad worked here as an electrician. He told me a story about when they were changing lights in all the rooms. He would walk into each room and pull the bed into the middle of the room and stand on it to reach the light. He had done a load of them when he pulled the bed it was heavier than the others and pulled the bedsheets back and found a a dead body. He said his eyes had all sunk into his head. Gave me nightmares as a kid 😂
When I was young they was a sign near jeb metals saying walker station I remember someone saying they took it but I can't remember where
0:43 Very interesting information.
Remember it well brought up in sharp red just round the corner long gone now
😂😂😂
Go on Eric lad, 2 subscribers! I'll subscribe too when you post your video! Keep it up!, the Internet relies on your stimulating comments.
Great video, just seen part 2 before this and also noticed that you work for SUEZ as well. Small world.
The last managers were Mr and Mrs Watson my aunt and uncle, when Simpsons closed they managed a similar hotel in Glasgow for seamen,
Love this, was brought up on sedley road in the seventies with my grand parents went to carville school for a bit before moving to north east Scotland, 50 seconds in is my auntie lilly walking her dog, wow ❤
Enjoyed that. I often cycle along the path that used to be the Riverside Branch.
Brilliant 👏
It’s so sad that the only thing we have left of the past is photos. When will we ever learn.
My dad was working on a construction project near Walker station in 1985, which was derelict, but with its old British Railways signage from the 1950s. I thought the line was closed completely by then, but was surprised when a freight train carrying metals went past, and found out the line was still used a couple of times a week by Swan Hunter and a scrap metal yard.
My best friend Stella lived right behind shipyard ,I used to get bus to work and bus would be packed to rafters with shipyard workers , great times all gone it's sad really 😔 love all pictures keep em coming memorise must be kept alive 😢
So sad to see the end of an era
Is that a Suez transfer station
Yes.
@@plasterer69 i used to work for them
@nathanshadow5247 So did i, the management structure was poor so I left.
I remember everything you show in this video. I can even remember when they were building the new coast road and the dug outs for the flyovers, just off where I live on Station Road, I may have only been about four or five at the time, but I remember seeing the deep dugouts, the horrible smell and the watchies cabin next to Fergies corner shop!
Loved it, lots of memories.
Loved it, lots of memories.
What a bizarre commentary ‘North Atlantic voice’! Why?
Tyne Tees used to do exchange work placements with Canadian news broadcasters
shame its all gone, wouldve loved to have collected a piece of history from this lost railway
such a shame this is all gone now
Very interesting photos of the Riverside line, both in the earlier era of black-and-white photography and in its last years where colour photos were taken. Surprisingly, there seem to be almost no photos of the North Tyneside electric units on the Riverside Line -although older photos show the third rail. As well as the local service, sometimes during weekend trackworks, Whitley Bay to Newcastle Central electric trains must have been diverted by the Riverside line. Yet no photos of those diversions seem to exist.
Beautiful 💕
Wow that's close!
I grew up in these streets as I was from wallsend. Do you have any footage of Rawdon Court.
Heading there in a few weeks and this answered all my questions thanks!
Great pictures, good one! I've got three nests around my bedroom window! They are loads of birds in the garden, it's like Heathrow!
Use to sell the evening Chronicle and the pink for Harper's news agent's on Benton way in Simpson I lived at kitchener terrace happy days
So British so run down so derilect .
3rd Tyne Sea Scouts, Esso Northumbria echo sounding?
Thank you good pictures of what we had
Spot on pictures, I remember going to the burn to watch motorbike trials - good memories
Sleep easy my arse, by 1976 the place was demolished along with all of the terraced houses along the riverbank. Me and my mates used to sneak into the television room but always ' kept toot ' incase anyone came in . Often wondered what happened to the poor buggers who lived here, probably ended up sleeping rough, very sad, but seeing it brought back great memories for me at least.
Wow so chuffed i have come across this set of pictures, i loved living there in the 70's, i can still hear and smell the atmosphere going to school on Howdon Lane to my school Stephenson Memorial Middle School, and the jazz bands and the bridge over the track 14 storys used to play in the lifts if they worked lol so many memories loved this place and so glad i can call it home lived at 12 Lisle Grove
It had good lounge bar in the 60,s
I used to travel from Walker Station to North Shields daily on this.
My nana lived in the 14 storeys Memories.. I used to go to the disco at the east end... ah life as a teenager eh !!
Born and raised New Yorker. Twin Towers was my childhood. I was up on the roof of South Tower in 94. I MISS THE TWIN TOWERS
What's the soundtrack on this anybody know?
It was from UA-cam's library, can't remember it's title.
Thanks.
I'm from Teesside, But my mother always said that our relation was mayor of Wallsend. His name was Joseph Duffy and She said there was a statue to him. I checked it out and there is indeed a memorial fountain dedicated to him.
I worked on the construction of the replacement fountain in the park between the bowling greens..I did the earthworks and lifting and assembling of the pink granite pieces that it is constructed from using an excavator. Guess where all the pieces were made ? Why yes, you are absolutely correct..shipped all the way from China... What a state the UK has now become !
HMMMM NICE EASY CUSHION JOB EHH , ANOTHER DAY ANOTHER DOLLARS
Hey Plasterer69! I am hoping to do a short video of the lighthouse for a project I am currently working on for Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Zombies.. I am making this lighthouse//island into a zombies map and would love to include this drone shot of the island. :) Am I allowed to use this video?
Go for it, if you can credit me that would be good. Thx and good luck.
Plasterer69 thank you! I certainly will. If I could show you a picture of my work on progress I would :)
Plasterer69 I’d like players to see the real location and how different it looks to my version.. the layout of the island is almost the exact same, I’ve made it messy and bloody and set in ww2
I didn't realise that the Riverside line carried a (very limited) passenger service until as late as July 1973, well after Beeching. The photos show well how absolutely it was been run down by then. There aren't any photos in this excellent two-part slideshow which show the electric trains operating (which was until 1967) on the line. Perhaps some can be found in local railway histories. There was an hourly service from 1904 to 1948, but after that it was peak-hour only for the shipyards and other industries.
Great video of pictures. Cheers 👍🇬🇧
Excellent photos. Memories of Simpsons
Great old film.Thank you for taking the time to upload this..
Long shot I know but does anyone remember the Smurthwaite family ?
I’m sure there was a lad called Neil (or it might’ve been Ian) Smurthwaite, went to Willington High I think.
@@VintageBoxingTM Thanks Matt. I'm a Southerner but my Dads family were born and bred Wallsenders, he had six brothers and four sisters but it was all such a long time ago that all traces have gone I'm afraid.
